Therapeutic Music

Originally trained as a classical vocalist and music teacher, Olivia began her career with a focus on technique, repertoire, and performance. However, since 2020, she has noticed a shift in the way people engage with music. More and more, members of her community have been seeking music not just for learning or entertainment, but as a source of healing—whether from physical illness or emotional pain.

Her own journey into therapeutic music began while caring for a sick family member. During that time, she discovered the harp, and playing became a deeply soothing and healing practice. This personal experience opened a new path—one that emphasized the emotional and spiritual impact of music.

Since then, Olivia has brought harp and voice into care homes and community health settings, offering music as a gentle, supportive presence. These experiences deepened her commitment to using music as a tool for comfort and connection.

In August 2025, she completed her certification in therapeutic music through Harp for Healing, allowing her to serve more intentionally as a harpist and vocalist in therapeutic settings. Where once her focus was dazzling audiences with complex vocal repertoire, she now sees her role as one of service—creating musical spaces that support healing, calm, and presence.

Therapeutic music, as taught through the Harp for Healing program, is used to support well-being in a variety of community settings. Delivered live and with intention, this approach aims to address individuals’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs through music. Research and experience show that therapeutic music can help reduce stress, ease discomfort, and encourage relaxation and emotional connection in places like care homes, hospitals, and wellness centers. Incorporating therapeutic music into these environments offers a gentle, non-invasive way to support overall community health and promote healing.

It’s also helpful to understand how therapeutic music differs from music therapy. While both use music to enhance health and well-being, music therapy is a clinical profession provided by credentialed music therapists who work with clients through assessment and treatment plans tailored to specific psychological, cognitive, or physical needs. Therapeutic music, in contrast, is offered by trained musicians who use live music intentionally to bring comfort and calm, without clinical diagnosis or formal treatment. This distinction allows therapeutic musicians to complement healthcare by creating supportive, soothing musical experiences in a wide range of settings.
